Coming towards the end of her undergraduate study at the Providence College in Rhode Island, Laura Nagel is setting her sights on the longer distances in the hope of representing New Zealand.
Nagel left new Zealand on an athletic scholarship three years ago and has performed well for her University cross country team as well as improving significantly on the track. Her two most recent achievements include captaining her Providence team to the NCAA Championship cross country title in November and just this month running 15:42 for 5000m indoors.
The recent personal best time over 5000m now puts Nagel in the mix for selection for the Commonwealth Games in 2014, however she will still be required to better the qualifying standard of 15:32.
Nagel will graduate in May 2014 and intends to continue her running in the US while she studies for a Masters degree.
