London Marathon organisers have announced that Haile Gebrselassie, regarded by many as the greatest distance runner of all-time, will be the main pacemaker for the 2014 event to be held on April 13th.
With a world class field already confirmed which includes double Olympic Gold Medalist Mo Farah of Great Britain, the current marathon world record-holder Wilson Kipsang and world and Olympic marathon champion Stephen Kiprotich, the inclusion of Gebrselassie as a pacemaker cements the 2014 event as possibly the best field ever assembled.
Gebrselassie first broke the World Record in 2007 in Berlin and then became the first man under 2:04 on the same course the following year. The current World Record was set by Kipsang in September, also on the Berlin course, and may be under threat if the field handles the expected 1:01:40 required pace through half way.
