Video provided by Didier Poppe: I do seriously think that many young New Zealanders have the potential to become very good hammer throwers ... and not only up to the NZL national level which can be considered as poor compared to international standards. In this school championships we had some of them with 4 athletes throwing over 50m . Alex Fafeita who represented NZL at the youth Commonwealth 2011 was an expected winner and the only to throw over 60m (60,02m) . Dean Rusbatch was really impressive with quite a fluid technique . He was unfortunate to foul his last attempt at 58m . Richard Callister is a light weight thrower but full of energy . Alexander Parkinson , 51,79m after just discovering the event and less than 30 training throws had a 3m Pb and has got obviously some affinity with the event (and a lot of rotational radius) . Todd Bates , also a light weight , was also showing real good technical bases . After that Phil Jensen and Patrick Hellier have now more or less retired , there is room for a new ambitious young wave in the NZL hammer cages ! DP
