Video provided by Didier Poppe: There was only ONE real javelin thrower in this competition ... and several talented young boys with big arms and poor techniques , little control of their implements and no real idea about a decent run up , a real Hop and Block and how to get a delivery into the point of the javelin. Some of them could easily throw well over 60m with a few proper coaching sessions ... and this is quite positive for the future of the New Zealand men javelin which has produced in history several world class throwers like John STAPYLTON SMITH , Mike O ROURKE , Gavin LOVEGROVE and in the moment Stuart FARQUHAR . Ben LANGDON BURNELL is a "small format" thrower but with a great technique and can really make it to qualify for the World juniors 2012 with the 800g. Buckley NATHAN has got a great potential but the most primitive technique so far . Liam MURPHY need to build some power . Harry HULSTON-ADCOCK has also one of the best potentials. Kyle VAN DER MERWE has absolutely no control over his javelin. James EPERU looks pretty good technically. Remember that the javelin throw is before all an "accuracy" event . "Hit the point" is more important than "hit hard" which most often leads to catastrophic trajectories and poor distances ...DP
