He did a 2:47 marathon to win. That's faster than 4 min per km after 4.5 hours of racing. Not a bad effort to win his 9th Ironman

It would be interesting to hear CK's take on running 2:47 at the end of an Ironman as he's certainly one who knows what it takes to run a fast marathon, and now knows how hard it must be to tack one on the end of such a long swim and cycle. That 2:47 does sound pretty impressive though when you compare it to times by other top IronMan competitors, and considering his years in the sport - dc

As simple as just having a very high aerobic efficiency + coming off the bike in good shape and refuelling. Cam Browns years in the sport = a massive aerobic base. Read about Mark Allen and how his aerobic pace just kept creeping up over the years. It isnt rocket science, just a huge number of hours training and working out your best management of your resources. Having said all that, Im sure there are plenty who put the hours in but never quite figured out the riddle...
Great to see Bozzone make a great race of it. No racing for second place there! Big ups to Jo Lawn too for what looks like could be a bit of a rebirth for her in the sport. |
