Arguably the most intriguing contest is the B.O.A.T. With Caversham’s absence in Nelson, the Scottish completed the unprecedented double of the A grade title and the coveted trophy. Caversham is back in the mix this year, however Usain Bolt of the B.O.A.T. in Browno is not running due to injury. Past winners Stevens, Hopping and Meffan will have to employ their courage, confidence and guile to bring it home without their former marquee player. Browno will be present in a managerial role so it will be a high point of interest as to whether the legend on the table can translate his skills in this manner.
Also, this year Otago is entering a combined quasi-centre team in the form of a new registered club, with the notable absence of Caversham who have reportedly refused to join. It will be interesting to see who prevails in the battle between Caversham and “Otago”. IMO great to see Caversham stay true to their club colours, however, many Otago athletes would not have made it to the start line without this amalgamation
