Jake Robertson and his brother Zane moved from their home in New Zealand at the age of 17 to train full-time in Kenya after Jake got a taste of international competition at the World Jr XC Championships. Jake knew he wanted to train to be the best and felt doing it with the best was the way to go. Now age 22, Jake has competed in the Senior World XC Championships and most recently made the final in the 5000 meters at the 2011 World Championships in Daegu. Here he talks about the his idea and decision to move from his family and what it was like training in Africa.
In 2011 Jake set a PR of 13:22 for 5k and will look to improve upon that while he is in the US. In one of his first miles he ran 4:01 at Mt SAC, but DNFed at Payton Jordan. His next race will be the Oxy HP Meet on May 18th.
Click here to watch an interview with his brother Zane Robertson who has set two major PRs while here in the US (3:36 for 1500 and 3:56 in the mile).
