A tad nervous?

She's gonna be a cracker. Whether it's a nutcracker time will tell.

Nice work Pakuranga.Good to see you made a few safety adjustments over the last couple of years. It was great to get a decent size field in the SM/VM race too.Congrats Scottish for your top club award.

Actually I just remembered an extremely hurtful heckle directed at me from the Rambers van while I was grimly trying to hang on to Iain Mac - 'hes looking a bit chubby". Ouch guys, Ouch. Now, time for my lunchtime cracker and a grape.

Classic relays - great course and organisation, and a stormer of a social! Naked 400's, broken glass, overloaded vans, strangulations - maybe the most infamous social ever?

Well done to Mike and the rest of Pak for organising. Too soon to ask where 2012 relays will be?

And a very impressive run by Sally Gibbs on leg one too.

steveday 9 months ago

Nice work by UC to open up that lead with big runs on legs 3-5. And, that's a pretty astonishing performance by Stephen Lett on leg 6 = a big margin of victory over a top field.

So, was there an after party this year?
Yes. Yes there was.

Sharon's photos are here:

With it being a relay and Sharon captaining the MW C team, coverage is not as comprehensive as usual. Still got a good number from all teams and most of prize-giving.
They're also on FB if you go to the Wellington Scottish page.

I have just uploaded the final results. Thanks Ian, a great way to spend Father's Day ...

If you find any errors, please let me know. Also, if you have any feedback (positive, negative, ways to improve the event etc), please send me an email - mtandtb@xtra.co.nz.
Cheers. Mike

Another awesome relay, great event put on too, thanks to all organisers! Sadly, no win, left nut severely hurt within itself, but we got the closest we have in a while! Hats off to UC, another great win even though slightly weakened, and great sportsmanship, well deserved winners! After Party was epic, still waiting on a vid clip coming soon......"Pakuranga Strangla" - headline news!

THE Athletics Reporter is happy to report on a successful after party. Highlights included....

1) A nude 400m race at 1am, participants of which will remain unnamed due to legal ramifications
2) Glass breakages during a frighteningly aggressive boat-race program
3) Dale Warrander
4) Stefan Smith wearing a purple shirt and black tie.....
5) 25 people travelling to the city courtesy of the red Takapuna minibus driven by Chris Pilone
6) The first ever "strangulation" at a Road Relays as an anonymous bald team manager with an english accent strangled an anonymous Wellington Scottish runner in the car park because he did not want to keep a 3XL Athletics New Zealand Union jacket by running a nude 400 meters.
7) Stefan Smith manning up and chopping off his left gonad with a hatchet after claiming "I will bank on my left nut that Scottish will win 2011 NZRR" ***
all in all good time was had by all - even Joel Martin after blowing a lead to Wesley and costing Takapuna 24 beers.
*** nb. may or may not have actually happened

Provisional Results are up:
http://www.pakrun.org.nz/images/Provisional%202011.pdf

Looks to be a small number of errors in the splits of the MM. They show Scottish MM A falling to 5th place at the end of leg four, but that was the leg where we moved into first place. It looks right at the end of leg five, so just the leg 4 ulative time that's out. Similarly, Scottish MM B leg two time is a couple of minutes faster than actual, but it looks correct again at the end of leg three.

B.O.A.T Race rules

Beer.On.A.Table race rules by Caversham 2011.
Section 1.0 Teams
Section 1.1 Team Members.
A full team consists of 4 members. A team may race with as little as one member (although this is not recommended), having fewer members does not reduce the amount of beer consumed.
Section 1.2 Team Uniforms (Not compulsory but highly recommended)
Each team should have a distinguishing singlet or jersey. It looks much classier when a team lines up in matching outfits; it also encourages team spirit and bravado. And where to return you at the end of the night.
Section 1.3 Team Positions
1. Lead
2. Break away
3.Turn Around
4. Anchor
Section 2.0 A Complete Guide To Proper B.O.A.T Racing.
Section 2.1 Set Up
To set up a race one would need 8 full handles of warmed flattened beer. Two teams who line up on opposite sides of an official B.O.A.T. racing table and a minimum of one Judge/Starter to stand at one end of the table. (Same Judge/Starter to judge every race.)
Section 2.2 Starting Procedure
To start the race the starter will tell the racers "assume the starting position". The position is opposite your opposition team member on the B.O.A.T. racing table, with your hands either side of your handle on the table (but not touching the handle). This will form two neat lines either side of a table. The starter will then say "racers ready" and do his most important job, start the race by yelling GO!
Section 2.3 The Race
As soon as the starter yells GO! the Lead racer can touch his glass and begin to drink it. The racer in second position (Break Away) cannot touch his handle until the Lead racer has placed his handle back on the table. The Lead must consume his handle then tip it upside down over his head (to ensure all the liquid has been consumed) then place it back on the table. The race will continue like this untill the first Anchor places their empty handle back on the table. That team wins.
Section 3.0 Rules and Regulations
Section 3.1 DQ, Disqualification. This happens for the following reasons.
Spill- This happens when there is an excess of beer flowing from the mouth (two noticeable streams of beer off the face, each side of the handle).
Broken Glass- Even if its an accident.
Discontinuity at a team level- This happens when a team member touches a glass to early or drinks out of rotation.
Green Slime-ing - ie. throwing your beer over your shoulder.
Puking At The Table- Others have to use this after you. 3m to the side is acceptable.
Section 3.2 NZRR Specific Rules
- Sudden death team format.
- 4 person teams.
- Every team must be made up of members from the same club that ran in the running relay on the day.
- The winner of the final takes home the trophy, engraves it, returns it the following year, and sets the rules for the next years competition.
-The Pisstorian and or his apprentice, or a member from the host club/province at the after party will run the competition and rule on all close calls and DQ's.
Some helpful rules that might resolve and/or start arguments:
1. A racer does not have to finish the beer in his/her mouth before tipping the handle over their head and putting down the glass. The beer must eventually go down the hatch before the racer leaves the table.
2. Spilling is an art - Judges can't call just anything a spill. It has to be an obvious waste of beer. If a racer spills a little on his/her shirt or leaves a bit in the glass it's still considered clean, or no spill.
3. Trash talking is MANDATORY; everything is fair game, mothers, sisters, dogs…etc; BUT keep in mind that it is done for fun, and that after the race you will be expected to hug the person that you were racing against.
4. Yelling at the judges never helps, but it never hurts either, you won't know better anyways; you're -bombed, Have fun kudos.
